Here's Pravda slightly missing the twinkle in the eye of Fossil Fool's Day, and namechecking Art Not Oil in passing:
---------------
Environmental
activists urge to rename April Fools Day04/01/2008 Environmental activists want to
turn April Fools Day into Fossil Fools Day. They claim that there isnt
much to laugh at. Rising Tide UK, a grassroots
network dedicated to building a movement for climate justice, is trying
to attract more attention to the problem of root causes of climate
change by renaming the day of laughter.
The group is going to launch a 100-actions" campaign across the world
to point out the role that fossil fuels play in climate change. The aim
is the transition to a non-carbon society, localization of energy,
food, and economic systems for future.
In 2006, Rising Tide UK's activities included: actions in solidarity
with the Shell to Sea campaign in County Mayo, Ireland; a campaign and
counter exhibition called Art Not Oil, dedicated to ending oil
companies' sponsorship of the arts; helping to organize the Camp for
Climate Action held outside Drax power station in Yorkshire; and
supporting a direct action campaign against the massive South Wales Gas
Pipeline project.
Rising Tide gives workshops and talks on climate change, supplies
educational materials, and also encourages support for non-violent
direct action against climate change.
