Shell ends National Gallery partnership

SHELL ENDS NATIONAL GALLERY PARTNERSHIP IN BID TO BOOST INFLUENCE IN SCIENCE EDUCATION October 20, 2018 - National Gallery confirms that controversial partnership with oil giant Shell is over - Gallery joins list of major Dutch Museums whose Shell sponsorship deals have recently ended - Pressure mounts on Manchester’s Science and Industry Museum where a new Shell-sponsored exhibition is due to open this week - News comes as IPCC launches “game changing” report emphasising urgency of phasing out fossil fuels Just weeks after Shell was dropped as a sponsor by three major Dutch museums, it has emerged that the oil giant’s long-standing partnership with the National Gallery in London has also come to an end. Over the years, activists have challenged the controversial partnership with musical protests, theatrical interventions and an audacious banner-drop from the Gallery’s iconic portico.
